Daedalus Group, LLC, founded in 2019, acquires high-quality patent portfolios at premium valuations. If you hold patents covering foundational technologies in networking, semiconductors, microprocessors & AI, cloud computing, DSP, or display technologies — we want to hear from you.
Founded in 2019, Daedalus Group, LLC is a privately held patent acquisition and monetization enterprise operating in the United States. We acquire foundational technology patents at premium prices, monetize those portfolios through licensing, and back every acquisition decision with rigorous technical and legal analysis.
We purchase from entities of all sizes — from global technology leaders to emerging innovators. Our landmark acquisition of 1,000+ assets from IBM and the historic 200+ asset purchase from Intel — the first patent sale by Intel to a non-practicing entity (NPE) — demonstrate our capacity at the largest scale. Equally, our acquisition of patents from Nyriad, a pioneering New Zealand storage technology company, which became the foundation of our Daedalus Cloud affiliate, shows our ability to identify exceptional technology from innovators of any size. GlobalFoundries is another example of our broad acquisition reach.
Nyriad was a New Zealand-based storage technology company that developed breakthrough GPU-accelerated RAID and erasure coding technologies. Daedalus Group acquired Nyriad's patent portfolio, which now forms the basis of Daedalus Cloud, LLC — a testament to our commitment to acquiring cutting-edge innovation regardless of the seller's size or geography. Ed Gomez is the founder and Managing Principal of Daedalus Group, LLC, established in 2019. Ed is a recognized authority in the patent monetization space, with decades of experience developing licensing programs, managing global enforcement campaigns, and building commercial frameworks around foundational patent rights.
Ed began his legal career at Pennie & Edmonds, one of the preeminent IP law firms of its era, where he became a partner specializing in patent litigation. Since departing in 2001, he has held senior roles across leading patent monetization organizations, including Altitude Capital Partners (Managing Director & General Counsel) and Walker Innovation (General Counsel & Chief Patent Counsel), where he oversaw evaluation, acquisition, and enforcement of large-scale patent portfolios.
Under his leadership, Daedalus Group has completed landmark acquisitions from entities both large and small: 1,000+ assets from IBM, 200+ from Intel (the first-ever Intel sale to an NPE), portfolios from GlobalFoundries, and Nyriad's breakthrough storage technology patents — which became the foundation of Daedalus Cloud, LLC.
We purchase patent portfolios covering foundational technologies, conduct rigorous technical and legal analysis, and license those portfolios on the strength of their claims.
Before any acquisition, Daedalus Group conducts rigorous claim mapping, prior art review, and technical coverage analysis. We evaluate each portfolio against industry-standard products and processes — ensuring every asset we acquire is grounded in fact, substance, and commercial viability.
We identify and acquire patent portfolios covering technologies with broad, verifiable implementation in target industries. Portfolios are selected based on claim quality, technical coverage, and strategic fit across our core technology domains.
Daedalus Group engages directly with potential licensees. Licensing discussions are conducted professionally, with the goal of achieving fair-value, non-exclusive license agreements that reflect the genuine value of the covered technology.
Where licensing efforts do not yield a voluntary resolution, Daedalus Group is prepared to enforce its patent rights through litigation. Enforcement is a last resort, but it remains an essential component of any credible licensing program.
Note: Daedalus Group, LLC acquires and licenses its own portfolios as a principal. We do not act as a broker, agent, or representative for third-party patent owners, and do not offer IP management or consulting services on behalf of others. That said, in certain strategically appropriate circumstances, we may be open to exploring collaboration opportunities with aligned parties on a case-by-case basis.
Daedalus Group's licensing activities are anchored in six high-value technology domains where the Managing Principal brings both technical depth and legal sophistication.
Deep expertise in packet-switched networking, transport layer protocols, routing architectures, wireless communication standards including Wi-Fi, LTE, and 5G NR, and network function virtualization. Daedalus Group understands both the standards-essential and implementation-specific dimensions of communications patents.
Comprehensive knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes, device physics, circuit design methodologies, memory architectures — DRAM, NAND, NOR — CMOS image sensors, advanced packaging technologies, and analog and mixed-signal design. We navigate both process and product patent claims with authority.
Strong background in processor microarchitecture including pipeline design, superscalar execution, out-of-order processing, branch prediction, cache hierarchy optimization, and instruction set architecture extensions. Expertise spans RISC and CISC paradigms and extends to AI accelerators, neural processing units, GPU architectures, and custom digital logic design.
Domain knowledge covering virtualization — hypervisors, containers, and unikernels — distributed storage systems, cloud-native orchestration, microservices architectures, serverless computing, and multi-tenant resource management. We track both infrastructure and platform-layer patent landscapes in cloud computing.
Deep knowledge of DSP algorithms and hardware implementations including FFT architectures, filter design, audio and video codec technologies, image processing pipelines, and signal compression techniques. Expertise covers both fixed-function DSP cores and programmable signal processing platforms deployed in consumer and industrial applications.
Expertise spanning flat panel display technologies — LCD, OLED, and microLED — display driver ICs, touch sensing architectures, backlight systems, and the full hardware stack of consumer electronic devices including smartphones, tablets, wearables, and connected home products.
